Yes, it’s getting to be that time of the year again where the horror commercials run and the children dress up for candy. For most, the Halloween season is a time for excitement and candy gorging, but for others that latter can be a time of exclusion. Due to this, here at Sunny Snacks we want to encourage everyone to think about people with food allergies this halloween season! The thought of peanut based candies, as well as, the children with peanut allergies is an afterthought for many people during this time of year. Because of this, we at Sunny Snacks want to bring awareness this month to the risks of peanut allergies not only for trick-or-treating children but also for adults. Here are just some statistics to think about during this Halloween season as candies with many different ingredients are handed out:
1. Between 1997 and 2008, the prevalence of peanut or tree nut allergy appears to have more than tripled in U.S. children. 2. There are an estimated 15 million Americans with food allergies, 5.9 of whom are children under the age of 18. 3. Every 3 minutes a food allergy sends somebody to the
emergency room
