As this year’s spooky season passes, another season takes the reigns as we toward the Thanksgiving holiday. Of course, we’re talking about the “Giving Season” in which we give something back to the community rather than take from it. This season, we encourage you guys to give something back to the community in any way possible. If you can’t think of any way to give back to your community we included some easy activities that you may want to try to give back.
At Sunny Snacks, we like to support more than one positive message whether it be through an activity or organization. Last month we decided to support the Teal Pumpkin Project in an effort to bring peanut allergy awareness, but this month we are proud and honored to support a cause such as the Kindness Challenge. With everything going on in the world today, it is quite easy to fill our thoughts and minds with negativity. In response to this influx of negativity, the Kindness Challenge is designed not only to get one person to do a good deed, but it’s ultimate goal is to keep spreading to as many people within a community.
With your help, we are positive that from a combination of our possible giving season activities, the Kindness Challenge, and, of course, you; this Thanksgiving season will not only be more enjoyable for those less fortunate but for yourself as well.
Giving season activities
In an effort to spread some joy during the Thanksgiving season, we wanted to present you with some activities that you can either do alone or with friends and family. By participating in these activities, it helps others less fortunate during this time of the year to receive something and not feel forgotten. Without further ado, here is our pick of events that can be quite rewarding to participate in.
1. Soup Kitchen:
It may be a kind of cliché part from a Hallmark movie, but it could possibly be one of the most rewarding activities you may ever partake in. Soup kitchens are a perfect way to spend the season by providing others, who may have nowhere to go, a meal for Thanksgiving. The great part about this is that it you can go at this solo or invite friends to join you AND it doesn’t require you to spend any money, just your time. If you feel that volunteering at a soup kitchen interests you but don’t where to start, head over to DoSomething.org and look for Soup Something. This resource helps you find a local soup kitchen to volunteer and help at.

2. Volunteer at the Nursing Home:
One of the most heartbreaking things that can happen during the season, and in general, is being forgotten by friends and family. Unfortunately, it is very common for the elderly in nursing homes to feel left out during this time of the year but this is where you can help and give back. Just like the soup kitchen, the only price of this activity is your time while the satisfaction of making another person’s day, or even year, is priceless. Volunteering at a nursing home truly is one of the best, selfless ways to spend the holiday.
3.Donating:
Donating is a perfect way for people who don’t want to or can’t volunteer their time to get in on the giving back. When we say donating, we do not necessarily mean money but rather object like extra or unused clothing and toys or canned, nonperishable foods. In fact, most people donate the aforementioned items to Harvest Drives who then distribute the items to individuals or families in need.
That’s it, our choice of three extremely satisfying activities that you can partake in during this holiday season. Although this is a short list of undertakings, we know that there are endless ways to give back this Thanksgiving and we encourage you to do what you want/can to help out others.
Kindness Challenge
At Sunny Snacks, we want to promote a positive, inclusive, and uplifting environment. Because of this, we wanted to offer the kindness challenge to you guys.
Although it’s always great to be kind, this challenge lasts for 30 days with you choosing the start date. One of the best ways to participate within this activity though is to do it with friends and have fun with it, but it can also be done solo. The objective each day is to just do one act of kindness whether it be a compliment or helping somebody with a task. By doing this one act of kindness, you can help introduce the challenge to others who will hopefully join you on the challenge. The best part is that it not only gives you a sense of accomplishment by helping others, but if that person you helped had a bad day you may have just brought a ray of sunshine and positivity to them. In all, the challenge is just a way to start a movement of kindness within a community and replace negativity with positivity and happiness.
